Zoids takes place on the planet Zi. A young boy named Van finds an organoid and a mysterious girl inside an abandoned laboratory in the middle of the desert. He names the organoid Zeke, and the claims to be called Fiona. Zeke resurects a dead Shield Liger and the three escape back to Van's home town. Fiona begins to tell Van of something called Zoids Eve. She doesn't know what it is, but it's the only piece of memory she has. Van, Zeke, and Fiona set out to find this Zoids Eve but end up getting caught in a deadly war between the Helic Republic and the Zenebas Empire. With Moonbay, Irvine, and Dr. D by their sides the little group struggles to survive the war, defeat the vicious Raven, and uncover the secret to Zoids Eve.
Zoids are mechanized fighting units. They're built to resemble various animals and when combined with an organoid can make a very formidible opponents. Zoids are extremely customizable, from paint jobs to artilary. Guns and weapons can be mounted on both the left and right sides, top and under-carriage, and sometimes on the legs and sides of the head as well. Every zoid has within it a Zoid Core. This core is the heart, soul, and brain of a zoid. When the core is damaged, the zoid is destroyed.
Organoids are wild, living zoids. They merge with the zoid core to increase the combat ability of a zoid and give it an extra boost of power. However, if a zoid core is destroyed while and organoid is merged with it, there is little chance that the organoid will survive. In rare cases, an organoid has been know to be able to repair a damaged zoid and bring the zoid back to life. Another rare event is the evolution of zoids. An organoid can wrap itself around a zoid core and en-shield the entire zoid in a cocoon like manner to completely evolve the zoid into a new, more powerful zoid.
