The story revolves around gats, a mercenary that fights with an inhumanly large sword. The story begins with gats going to a town and destroying the demon-like dictator in order to find his rival griffith. He's eternally haunted by four demons because of a strange tatoo on his neck. This tatoo shows that he is a slave or sacrifice to a demon king.
Gattsu had a hard life, becoming a mercenary at a young age, his father trying to murder him, and his group nearly group nearly killing him. He eventually became a very powerful young mercenary that fought with an unusually large sword. He was undefeated and thought to be nearly invinsable until the day he met griffith.
Griffith was the young and attractive leader of the undefeated mercenary group called the hawks. Griffith easily defeated gats twice but spared his life in exchange for his service. Griffith has a nearly god like grip on his sqaud because they have such great respect for his leadrership and battle skills. The only thing greater than his battle skills is his ambitition. He holds the eye of god, a mysterious pendant and desires nothing but power and his own kingdom. He also holds all of gats respect, and complete and total loyalty. Now after the ultimate betrayal gats only goal in life is to kill griffith and is willing to destroy his very soul to do it. This is a very dark and intriguing anime that doesn't skimp on the gore.
Characters:
Gattsu: Commonly known as gats, he's the main character who carries a large sword and has nearly inhuman strength. He's always had a hard life and has been a mercenary since he was a child. Now he has decided to do anything to kill the man he once revered and served.
Griffith: The young and charismatic leader of the infamous mercenary group known as the hawks. A man who holds the respect of many for one reason or another but only desires absolute power.
Casca: The young female swordsman who would do anything for griffith. She loves griffith and wants to be more than just a fighter, but is willing to put her feelings aside to help griffith acheive his goals. She hates gats because griffith seems to favor him above all others do to his strength.
Charlotte: The daughter of the king who is extremely fascinated with griffith. She is the key to griffith becoming king one day.
Judou: A member of the hawks and the leader of the reconnaissance sqaud. He's good with a knife and a friend of both gats and griffith.
Rickert: The youngest member of the hawks and a skilled crossbow user.
This is one of the best animes i've ever seen. It has a dark and intriguing story line that surpasses most others. Alot of well balanced and developed characters make this sseries a definite must see.
