Flame of Recca

Over 400 years ago a boy named Kurei was destined to become the next leader of the Hokage ninja clan and be the next flame master but things changed when a boy named Recca was born. Only one child could be born with the flame and Recca had it also. The village leader and his council had a meeting and decided that Kurei should die because his flame was impure. His mother begged for her son's life and said that Recca should be killed because Kurei was the first born. The leaders did not listen and were going to kill Kurei until Recca's mother begged that they spare both boys. The leader agreed with his wife but made Kurei and his mother live on the outskirts of the village in a slum house. Kurei developed a hate for Recca and even tried to kill him once as a baby giving Recca a scar on his cheek. Later it was heard that another ninja clan was going to attack the Hokage ninja and try to steal their elemental weapons. The leader decided not to use the elemental weapons in battle for fear of losing them. In the battle the Hokage were greatly outnumbered and easily slain. In the midst of the battle Reccas mom is running through the woods until she comes to a spot and uses the forbidden time warp jutsu to send Recca through time leaving her cursed to be immortal and wander through time watching the ones she holds close die. As the time warp was about to close Kurei runs and jumps in to kill Recca but they are sent to different spots. Recca is found by a man and raised as his son. Recca meets his mother not knowing who she is and she tries to fight him and kill Yanagi(Recca's love interest) to make him use his flame that Recca has no idea he possesses. He figures out that he has his flame and uses it. This leads to the meeting of his half-brother Kurei when he steals Yanagi for his father to figure out the secret to immortality through Yanagi's healing powers. Recca finds out that Kurei is his brother and goes to a tournament to beat him but first he must put up a something valuable to him to eneter the tournament. Yanagi volunteers herself to be the collateral in case Recca and his friends lose in the tournament. So now, not only is Recca fighting to get to his brother but also to keep Yanagi by his side.
Characters
Recca Hanabishi- Recca comes from the Hokage ninja clan which means he has the ability to shoot flames from his hand. He wears an arm band on his arm that keeps his own flames from burning him alive. He always says that the first person to beat him, then he will become their personal ninja. He often fights with Domon and Fuuko because they both want him to be their personal ninja and are outraged to find that Recca had become Yanagi's ninja by his choice and would do anything to protect his Hime(princess)
Yanagi Sakoshita- Yanagi is a caring person and loves children. She was taking care of children when Recca first meets her and saves her life from a construction accident. Recca was nearly killed from the accident but Yanagi used her healing powers to heal Recca. This is when Recca realizes that Yanagi is his princess and that he will protect her from anything.
Fuuko Kirisawa- Fuuko has been Recca's friend since childhood and has always tried to fight him so Recca could become her ninja but Recca always got the best of her. She also seems to have feelings for Recca at the beginning of the series. She is very tomboy-ish and is often called ugly. She recieves the Fujin(God of Wind) elemental weapon and uses it to fight along side of Recca to save Yanagi.
Domon Ishijima- Domon was an enemy of Recca who is also in love with Fuuko. He is seen as a bully and often called a "nose- ringed mongoloid" by Recca until his true gentleness is shown when he must team up with Recca to save Fuuko from the Fujin when she loses control of it. From that point on Domon fights alongside of Recca and Fuuko to save Yanagi, although his interest is obviously all for Fuuko. He recieves the elemental item called Saturn's Ring which makes its user stronger.
Tokiya Mikagami- Tokiya is one year older than Recca and is looking for the man that killed his sister, who looks alot like Yanagi. Tokiya fights Recca because he believed Recca had something to do with his sister's murder. He then joins Recca in the fight against Kurei because he believes that it will lead to his sister's murderer. Tokiya wields the Ensui, the elemental water blade. He makes Recca promise to protect Yanagi with his life always because if anything happens to her then he will slice Recca's stomach open.
Kaoru Koganei- Kaoru was one of the elemental masters with Kurei, Kaoru loves a good fight. He is only in junior high but has mastered his elemental item, Kougan Anki, which has five sides. Overall, Kaoru is not a bad person, but loves to tease others, especially Recca. He is told of the sixth form of his weapon but never manages to find it.
Houshi Kage- She is seen as evil at first and Recca seems to think she is the cause of all his problems at the beginning of the series but later finds that she is his mother and from that point goes by Kagero. She usually sits at the sidelines and describes the powers of the elemental weapons that the fighters are using.
Kurei- Recca's half brother and enemy that creates the tournament for a chance to eliminate Recca. He is also a flame master that uses the blue(or cool) flame to battle against Recca's red flame. Not much is known about Kurei until later in the series when his reasons for fighting are revealed and he is not as evil as he seems.
Overall i think this anime was very good. It does contain adult language and some adult themes at times. This doesnt take away or distract from the story at all and is actually quite comedic at times. I think this series is a must see and reccomend it to anyone who like plenty of fighting and action in their anime. i give it a 5/5
